Joan Fortuny, MD, PhD, is a Director of Epidemiology at RTI Health Solutions with a background in medicine and epidemiology. He holds a medical degree and a doctoral degree in pharmacology (pharmacoepidemiology) from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, where he also trained for a clinical pharmacology specialty. Dr. Fortuny has academic research experience, primarily in the field of cancer epidemiology with a focus on the effect of inflammation-related drugs on the risk of different types of cancer. Prior to joining RTI-HS, Dr. Fortuny held positions in the Barcelona Municipal Institute for Medical Research, the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, and the Catalan Institute of Oncology. Dr. Fortuny also worked in the pharmaceutical industry as a Therapeutic Area Lead for neuroscience and ophthalmology, where he led and participated in epidemiological product strategies, submissions to health authorities, pediatric investigation plans, orphan drug applications, risk managements plans, periodic safety update reports, and epidemiology-related health authority questions.
